Sewing Sunday

Hello Everyone

Today is a very chuffed day, because wait for it, steady – I have finished my cross stitch of Sophia Loren. Husband is very happy indeed. Now to get her framed (luckily the picture framer I use is still trading after the Covid restrictions.)

I started this project on September 2021 so nearly two years later.

In case anyone wants to stitch her – I purchased the below cross stitch pdf download from “www.etsy.com/shop/diana70” )

Here is the lady herself

Sophia Loren stitched by Daisy M.

For the eagle eyed amongst us – I decided early on not to stitch all of the feathered design of her gown and jacket.

Bye for now

HQAL – Sunday 6th Aug 23

Hello Everybody

My last post had me a Happy Dance at finishing the top of my Honeybee Quilt (Gail Pan designs) but now I am like the weather, in a very changeable mood. One minute I feel that the Redwork Basket Quilt by Dandelion Designs should be my next project and the next I feel the need to complete an UFO – being my Memoirs Quilt. I still have to take the cardboard pieces from the above mentioned finished quilt top and machine together the pieced backing. Perhaps I have too much on the go. Well for this week I have nothing to show except for the starting point of each project and hopefully in the next three weeks I will have made a decision and you will have a surprise.

Redwork so far completed …… January Pieced Block and Redwork design, Completed February, March, April and May Pieced Blocks and started February Redwork Design. Lots left to do!

This is the overall design by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs

Memoirs Quilt so far completed (this one would be the quickest to the finish line.)

This is the main layout – my calculations are a little adrift – can’t work out why at the moment. Top and bottom borders to make.

Well that is me. Lets go see what the other members have achieved these past three weeks.

SAL – Sunday 30th July 23

Hello Everybody

Probably a little late to the party. I have managed quite a bit in the last three weeks, partly due to the Husband was not well and I had to remain home. He is better now after getting some antibiotics.

Well here is where I was last time ……

Here is my progress ….

AS you can see I have filled in the border and completed some of the flower vignette and continued some of the relief border. Hopefully I shall move onto the next section by our next catch up. In the meantime please look at the other members to see how they have progressed.

HQAL – Sunday 16th July 23

Hello Everybody

Three busy weeks has whizzed by again but this time I have a finish of sorts.

I have finished the top of the quilt “The Honeybee Quilt” . Backing and batting have been cut and it is now awaiting to be quilted (that pile is getting larger and larger.) I do need to remove the cardboard piecing before I get to quilting this.

Here is a portfolio of photos

Top of quilt with backing showing beneath.
Backing will be pieced either side with the yellow either side.
Close up of backing with border strip. This photo shows the colour better.

I have not chosen another project yet – maybe I should actually get quilting one of the projects. We will have to wait and see!

That is me so why not grab a cuppa and peruse the other members listed below to see how they have progressed these past three weeks

One Rainy Friday Afternoon

Hello Everybody

It is a very gloomy summer day today, non stop rain but it does enable us crafters time to do whatever we love best. I have been beavering away at my Redwork Basket Quilt. It is a design by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs (initially run as a Block of the Month) and have finished the Block for January and also the Basket for January. I have chosen the order I would like the blocks and it is different to Mandy’s original. Whilst this block below could be an Autumn season I chose it for the idea of homely log fires and perhaps pumpkin soup to keep you warm in the cold January weather.

Here are some photos

My stitching is not perfect but it has become a whole lot easier when I purchased and received some Clover Gold Eye Chenille Needles (No 24 size). The needle passes through with efficiency – I had just been using a general needle which was quite hard to thread. Right tools for the right job.

Now onto February, I have already made the block for February so just need to get on with the Basket.

The other project that has been keeping me busy is Sophia Loren Cross stitch. She is coming along beautifully, and in reality there is not too much left to do.

Last image shown ….June time

New image ……. July

Well that is all for now, take care and thanks for stopping by.

SAL – 9th July 2023

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all well, it is quite muggy and warm here in Old Blighty. I have been stitching quite a lot recently but not always on the one I need to stitch for this Sew A Long. However, I endeavoured to get some stitches in on Friday and Saturday so here is my progress ….

This is where I was ….

This is where I am now …….

That is me for this period so why not grab a drink and check out the other talented people listed below, who are each sewing an individual project.

Bye for now

Garden Time Thursday

Hi Everyone

After the hard snowbound winter that we endured, it has been time to tidy and sort out the garden. As I have mentioned before we have a few losses in the garden – primarily the palm tree. (I will show you some old pictures of the palm tree in its prime.) We have now sawn down the tree leaving a stump which my husband has now nailed the ornamental crow/jackdaw to. And we had decided to leave a small part of the garden to become naturized by planting wild flowers in front of the shed.

Those flower heads were huge and the bees loved them. RIP Tree

Really not sure what all the flowers are but there are definitely poppies.

Another disaster was my beautiful and prized Pieris Forest Flame. Here is a before image

and this is how it looks now. It is showing promise of new growth but I think I will reduce the height.

We have planted up a colourful flower garden this year. There are petunias, marigolds, lobelia, roses and dahlias which will bloom later. Also for the first time the lily plant by our wooden bench has flowered.

My husband has just cut back the little round bush that has golden yellow leaves. Camellia looks a little sick but I have fed her some iron so hope that helps.

Well that was a photo heavy colourful explosion.

Bye for now

Mother’s Quilt

Hello Everybody

As you might remember I have been helping my mother with the design and creation of a quilt featuring one of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker.

And she has now completed it

I believe it to be the Elderberry Fairy and the quilt fits nicely on her single bed. She was so proud of herself as she is 81 this year. The quilting was around alternate squares in the borders. She had already quilted the centre-piece by back stitching around the fairies and then layering another wadding and the backing so the centre is slightly raised.

We are now starting another one, I design a layout and then cut the necessary pieces to paper piece or machine sew whichever is her preference

Well that is all for now

Daisy

HQAL – Sunday 25th June 23

Hi Everybody,

I have to confess to not even picking up my project for HQAL – The Gail Pan Honey Bee Quilt. The garden has taken up all my spare time. Have now totally finished all the fencing, the gate and all around the shed. Totally bushwhacked!

I am still deliberating on the corners – she (the quilt) just isn’t talking to me at the moment.

Any how, apologies again, please take a peek at the other members listed below.
