Hope you are all well, it is quite muggy and warm here in Old Blighty. I have been stitching quite a lot recently but not always on the one I need to stitch for this Sew A Long. However, I endeavoured to get some stitches in on Friday and Saturday so here is my progress ….

Hi Everyone

After the hard snowbound winter that we endured, it has been time to tidy and sort out the garden. As I have mentioned before we have a few losses in the garden – primarily the palm tree. (I will show you some old pictures of the palm tree in its prime.) We have now sawn down the tree leaving a stump which my husband has now nailed the ornamental crow/jackdaw to. And we had decided to leave a small part of the garden to become naturized by planting wild flowers in front of the shed.

Those flower heads were huge and the bees loved them. RIP Tree

Really not sure what all the flowers are but there are definitely poppies.

Another disaster was my beautiful and prized Pieris Forest Flame. Here is a before image

and this is how it looks now. It is showing promise of new growth but I think I will reduce the height.

We have planted up a colourful flower garden this year. There are petunias, marigolds, lobelia, roses and dahlias which will bloom later. Also for the first time the lily plant by our wooden bench has flowered.

My husband has just cut back the little round bush that has golden yellow leaves. Camellia looks a little sick but I have fed her some iron so hope that helps.

Well that was a photo heavy colourful explosion.

Well I think that two projects have moved along to a different pile and one project is completed. One new project off to a flying start.

No wonder my mind is frazzled sometimes, but then again I like to have more than 1 project on the go at the same time. Ha! A busy year ahead still!!

Hello Everybody

As you might remember I have been helping my mother with the design and creation of a quilt featuring one of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker.

And she has now completed it

I believe it to be the Elderberry Fairy and the quilt fits nicely on her single bed. She was so proud of herself as she is 81 this year. The quilting was around alternate squares in the borders. She had already quilted the centre-piece by back stitching around the fairies and then layering another wadding and the backing so the centre is slightly raised.

We are now starting another one, I design a layout and then cut the necessary pieces to paper piece or machine sew whichever is her preference

Hi Everybody,

I have to confess to not even picking up my project for HQAL – The Gail Pan Honey Bee Quilt. The garden has taken up all my spare time. Have now totally finished all the fencing, the gate and all around the shed. Totally bushwhacked!

I am still deliberating on the corners – she (the quilt) just isn’t talking to me at the moment.

Hello Everybody

We are currently enjoying very warm weather and I have been busy painting the fencing (we have 23 panels) surrounding our property, boy was it hot. But Job Done!

The advancement I have made on the sewing project for this sew-a-long was only done in the last three days as I have been occupied doing other projects and garden work. However, I am quite pleased with myself at how much I achieved when applying myself. (Sorry if this sounds smug!!)

Hello Everybody

It’s Summer and the sun is shining. Hooray!

I’ve been busy helping Husband to tidy and cut the hedges making sure we do not disturb the birds nesting. We have already had one set of robins fledged – there were three youngsters, they have bred again and are now feeding another two babies and the blackbirds had two fledglings and are now feeding their second brood. It’s like a nursery or a relay race as they dart back and forth from the food bowl when we put it out.

Well onto the sewing, I have been busy doing little bits of each of my projects on the go and have done quite a lot to Sophia Loren cross-stitch.

Secondly I have started on the Redwork Design by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs. I have cut out all the pieced patterned fabric and some of the calico squares, as well as starting the first redwork stitched Month. I have rearranged the images (as suggested by Mandy) to suit my feelings with reference to the baskets. So here is the first one …..

This is January, February and March pieced blocks – all make up to 12″ finished blocks. And you can see that I placed one block wrongly (bottom right) OOPS (good job it is not sewn together).

I have ploughed through the books I mentioned back in May and have purchased some new books to read.

Hello everybody

It’s a gorgeous sunny summer day here in Blighty. I hope you have nice weather where you are situated in the world.

I have not done too much sewing on my Honey Bee (Gail Pan) Quilt. Only sewed the two sides to the centre panels. Still deliberating on the corner set up, Perhaps inspiration will come to me as I start removing the cardboard pieces.. So here is where I was last time

Actually they look the same but I can assure you in the first picture they are just laid out and sewn together in the second.

Hi Everybody

Yesterday was a glorious day for gardening, my job was to cut the back hedge which is Winter Jasmine, such a lovely smell, my other favourite is Honeysuckle (liquid honey in a flower – gorgeous). What is your favourite?

Today it is drizzling with rain now (1:30pm), but it was just sun/clouds earlier so I decided to refurbish the garden ornaments. Using some Sampler pots that I purchased from the hardware store where I work and a drop of Nail Varnish for his beak. (Notice I said “his” – yes those who follow my blog will know that I’m in the habit of naming inanimate object so he is Rodney and the tortoise in the image below is Tornado (anything but a whilwind)).
