Saturday Sewing

Hi Everybody

I have been happily sewing my EPP’s for the Heartstrings Quilt by Natalie Bird of Birdhouse Designs and have completed Two Dresden Plates which are a new design for me. Also sewed the majority of small hexagons for the second border on the design. The really small 1/2″ hexagons are quite fiddly.

The middle of the Dresden Plate is not sewn on yet. Is there a good way to sewn these? Appreciate any ideas. I am placing circles on five of the plates and only having four plates with applique designs. Another deviation from the design but I think it will look ok. The material is French Mill by Andover Fabrics.

I have also sorted through my old x-stitch patterns to find the thread as didn’t really want to purchase these. The design uses Cosmo Threads but I will be using DMC with colours that suit my material so might be some changes.

Not very clear – sorry!

These are my chosen borders for the stitchery designs making up the first border.

So much still to do. I haven’t even cut out the designs for the third border. Might make some changes there as well. Artistic License I suppose! I like the original but want to make it my own. Do you tend to change things with a design?

The other item I have been working on is Winter Queen X-Stitch which was my mothers but she has given it to me. There are some beading and some fluffy cotton required – so not straight forward.

Far left of design.

Well that is all from me for this post.

Take care

Daisy

HQAL – 17th Sept 2023

Hello everybody

Three weeks have whizzed by and we are in the middle of September already, everything is beginning to take on the autumnal shroud. However, the shorter days coming up will make us all turn to quilting and keeping warm under one whilst we work.

I have been beavering away at the redwork stitcheries and have finished the February one, see below

And have started on the March one, see below

Progress feels slow but steady.

Friday Fun Day

Hello everybody

I have just put Audrey, Sophia and Lady Greensleeves into the Picture Framers. It was fun choosing the borders and frames with Lady Greensleeves being the hardest to choose. I knew that I wanted an aged looking frame but not a heavy gilt one as I just don’t like that sort of thing. So 6 different choices later I settled on a tinted green wood frame with a gold inner rim. Lets hope it looks okay!

Also I have been playing with my lightbox which was one of my recent Birthday presents. I have been tracing the little stitcheries for the Heartstrings quilt and putting them onto calico. I am using a fine tip transfer pen by Sublime Stitching.

Well that is all for this post.

Birthdays and Sewing

Hello Everybody

This is a mixed bag of sewing news with quite a few photos. In no particular order – It was my Birthday and sewing supplies were purchased to the point that one particular parcel did not arrive until my actual date whereby I asked my husband to wrap it up so that I could then feign delight and unwrap it.

I have recently purchased some more Gail Pan patterns and material. The patterns are basically small projects.

This material is a panel and two pieces from her Birds of a Feather by Gail Pan for Henry Glass & Co. The other material is from my stash.. No particular design has been drawn up yet just a couple of ideas for blocks.

Two other patterns I purchased are by Natalie Bird for Birdhouse Patchwork Designs. I have been sewing scraps into 1″ hexagons and this design jumped out at me. (see hexagon table runner in above photo).

Also, purchased some material – French Mill by Andover fabrics which I am using to make this pattern. I have never made this shape before (2″ pointed Dresden plates), and some pieces are really small – 1/2″ hexagons. I will be using the Lightbox to trace the little stitchery panels. All good fun!

Final pattern is by Lynette Anderson Design and is a Christmas design in which I will probably use leftover fabric from my Christmas Quilt. (again see above photo)

With all this sewing in mind I decided to make two needle cases (these were glued together with Pritt Stick)

The one on the left is just a soft case and the one on the right has a hardboard cover.

Phew that was long, thanks for reading if you made it to the end.

Take care

Daisy

SAL – Sunday 10th Sept 23

Hello Everybody

It’s that time again, three weeks have whizzed by and we have entered Autumn although in Old Blighty we are having an Indian Summer Heatwave.

The weather has made it quite sticky to sew with a needle this past week so I was glad that I managed to get some stitches in before the heatwave struck.

This is where I was last time

This is my progress

Still enjoying this project.

Until next time, take care and please take a peek at the other members projects and progress.

HQAL – Sunday 27th Aug 23

Hello Everybody

I’m feeling much more chipper than last week – nasty Migraines. I have decided to go with the Red Work Quilt as my new project. The design is by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs. Reason being that I am having trouble deciding how to put the words around the outside of the Memoirs quilt. So I have been working on the February Section for the red work stitchery, which shows a Valentine theme. Luckily I have been able to source some appropriate materials for various blocks and occasions and I have also sewn quite a few of the blocks already – lets show some photos.

I have sewn more on the Red work stitchery than shown here. See next photo.

So we have April (Spring Chicks), May (King Charles 3rd Coronation, June (Strawberries) and Sept (Sewing) blocks.

I think this is going to take me a while to complete. Slow and steady stitching.

Well that is all for now.

Please take a look at the other members projects to see how much progress has been made on their individual projects.

SAL – Sunday 20th Aug 2023

Hi Everyone

This is just a quick note this time as I suffered a Migraine Attack yesterday and feel quite woozy with the drugs. I finished the right hand side and stitched the remaining border and started on left hand side bottom row.

Here are the pictures of my progress

Sewing Sunday

Hello Everyone

Today is a very chuffed day, because wait for it, steady – I have finished my cross stitch of Sophia Loren. Husband is very happy indeed. Now to get her framed (luckily the picture framer I use is still trading after the Covid restrictions.)

I started this project on September 2021 so nearly two years later.

In case anyone wants to stitch her – I purchased the below cross stitch pdf download from “www.etsy.com/shop/diana70” )

Here is the lady herself

Sophia Loren stitched by Daisy M.

For the eagle eyed amongst us – I decided early on not to stitch all of the feathered design of her gown and jacket.

Bye for now

HQAL – Sunday 6th Aug 23

Hello Everybody

My last post had me a Happy Dance at finishing the top of my Honeybee Quilt (Gail Pan designs) but now I am like the weather, in a very changeable mood. One minute I feel that the Redwork Basket Quilt by Dandelion Designs should be my next project and the next I feel the need to complete an UFO – being my Memoirs Quilt. I still have to take the cardboard pieces from the above mentioned finished quilt top and machine together the pieced backing. Perhaps I have too much on the go. Well for this week I have nothing to show except for the starting point of each project and hopefully in the next three weeks I will have made a decision and you will have a surprise.

Redwork so far completed …… January Pieced Block and Redwork design, Completed February, March, April and May Pieced Blocks and started February Redwork Design. Lots left to do!

This is the overall design by Mandy Shaw of Dandelion Designs

Memoirs Quilt so far completed (this one would be the quickest to the finish line.)

This is the main layout – my calculations are a little adrift – can’t work out why at the moment. Top and bottom borders to make.

Well that is me. Lets go see what the other members have achieved these past three weeks.

SAL – Sunday 30th July 23

Hello Everybody

Probably a little late to the party. I have managed quite a bit in the last three weeks, partly due to the Husband was not well and I had to remain home. He is better now after getting some antibiotics.

Well here is where I was last time ……

Here is my progress ….

AS you can see I have filled in the border and completed some of the flower vignette and continued some of the relief border. Hopefully I shall move onto the next section by our next catch up. In the meantime please look at the other members to see how they have progressed.
