Friday update

Hi everyone

I just wanted to update about the grey quilt, I found it difficult to line everything up, just not make it work so have changed the pattern to a chevron design, see photo. It still showcases the William Morris fabric well.

The only block I might move is the bottom left – which would mean the whole line moves left one block and the removed block would be on the right end instead. What do you think?

Friday Fun Day

Hello my fellow stitchery friends,

I have been busy beavering away at all my existing projects, and some unexpected new ones. I like to juggle things. So one of the projects that I have started is my Birds of a Feather Quilt – another Gail Pan Design, and I have prepared the pieces and have two blocks made which are 5 1/4″ finished size. My plan is to have one columns of pieced blocks either side of the panel which I am busy quilting at the moment. (Hopefully the measurements are correct.) Then I will frame it with two borders – so hope it turns out quickly. My idea is to use a feather stencil over the borders, and maybe just shadow stitch in the pieced blocks.

Here are the pieced blocks and panel design –

and the stencil (free with Today’s Quilter magazine)

The 2 smaller pictures are from Today’s Quilter issue 110

You may have read on another blog that I have finished the top part of my Memory Quilt and have fixed the wording I wanted in the border and making the pieced binding material. This is now joining my ever increasing pile of quilts needing quilting. With the left overs I practised another block design which I had learned online from Kate of “The Last Homely House” on her YouTube channel. She is really lovely and charming, explains how to do things and laughs a lot. This was the resulting pattern, it may not be perfect but it is a scrappy quilt. I was chuffed with my effort. They will be 3″ blocks when completed in between the two zigzag lines top and bottom.

Feeling confident I have made two more quilts using the block mentioned above, but in two different ways. It was fun to play around with the blocks and I wanted them to be deliberately different. They are hand machined on my old Singer Hand Cranked sewing machine. It runs like a dream, I love it so much!

Firstly a purple quilt (I love purple), Not completed yet!

It will be a small square lap type quilt.

Secondly, a blue/grey striped quilt using my William Morris – Morning Mist Fat Quarter Bundle fabric, I hope the design does the fabric proud.

It is quite a subtle colouring. I need to think about the border for this. May have to get some more plain fabric.

Well that is all for this post, sorry it is a bit long and photo heavy.

Enjoy the weekend!

HQAL – Sunday 11th Feb 2024

Hello everybody.

It is that time again – in the past three weeks I have been sewing on several projects. You know me, not content with one. Well had I not had a three day migraine there was a possibility of another happy dance but it is not to be,

Here is where I was last time ..

Here is my progress …

To be fair it is good progress. Mustn’t be so hard on myself.

Well lets take a wander into the other members blog-a-sphere and see their progress.

SAL – 4th February 2024

Hello Everyone

I am beyond HAPPY today as of Friday 2nd February I had finished my SAL Project Fruits of Plenty by Jacob De Graaf of Modern Folk Embroidery. I have really enjoyed stitching this piece and am thoroughly pleased with the result.

Here is a finished photo. I am not sure of the frame yet will need to sit and stare it for a while. The measurements are 28″ x 18″ and approximately 46,0000 stitches.

I started this project in March 22 and 2 years later in Feb 24 I have completed it., I have made modifications but as this is for my personal pleasure alone I chose the birdhouse and a bungalow and marked the passing of our dear Queen.

Not sure what the next project is going to be, So a surprise for next time.

Please grab a drink and take a peek at our members listed below to see how they fared over the past three weeks.

Friday Funtime part 2

Hi everybody

Last Friday I posted about my new William Morris Quilt. Well today I can tell you that I changed the design into a Chevron pattern which showcased the fabric beautifully. I have now pieced a backing with the remainder of the fabric and have now found some batting and this quilt is now on the awaiting quilting pile. ( the ever growing pile!!!)

Here are some photos of the front

The back

Some close up of materials used

To quilt it I may just stitch in the ditch along the chevron grey pieces but who knows I may change my mind.

Bye for now, Take Care

This is my progress …

May Block

Well that is me for this post.

Take care and stay warm. Storm Isha (I think that is the name of this one – who names them anyway?) has just made its presence known.

SAL – Sunday 14th January 24

Hello everyone

Happy New Year to you all!

I hope the Christmas Holidays gave you all that you wished for and didn’t our siw week break just fly by! I was lucky to have the whole of the holidays off work and I have made excellent use of the time. As you will see in the following photos I have sewn all the green vines for the centre part of My Fruits of Plenty cross stitch design by Jacob de Graaf of Modern Folk Embroidery. ( I only have one two-stranded length of cotton left.) Also changed the top vignette to a Bungalow and the second one to a bird house.

I have left the bottom two triangles and the two side triangle until later. Undecided as to which designs I want to incorporate.

There is still loads to do – my initials, squirrels and more birds in black and berries in lilac and overstitch the main outline in the centre and all around the outside edge of the design. It is quite a large design. but for now I am very happy with my progress.

Well that is that, please pop along to the other sites to see how they progressed in our six week break.

Christmas Quilt Top

Hello Everybody

I’ve been a little quiet on the blog lately apart from the two SAL that I participate in but today is about another finished top.

I had put this to one side earlier in the year and promised myself to finish before this Christmas and this in one promise I have kept. So here are some photos. It is only the top (yes another one – that makes 10), but I have just purchased some more wadding and I can use some music print as the back that I had originally bought to complete the Jazz Quilt – slightly over-estimated the quantity at the time. However, it will now complete this quilt.

Quilt top photos

It is not sewn totally together in this photo but I have done it now.

oops – bit blurry – sorry!

Well that is all for now.

I wish you all the happiness of the Holidays and a very Happy New Year!
