Hello Everyone
I have a new start today, it is a blackwork design by The Steady Thread and was originally a sew-a-long in 2024 called Spooky Shelves. I like certain aspects of Hallowe’en but not others (especially spiders) so was pleased this design didn’t have any. I think I like the celebration of All Hallow’s Eve when we celebrate the dead and departed rather than the commercialized Sweets and knocking on doors. Each to their own, I just don’t join in. Maybe I’m a Hallowe’en party pooper!!
On to the blackwork design, I had the paperwork design as a paid PDF, but suddenly realized that I didn’t have a piece of 14 count Aida or enough black DMC thread so hurriedly ordered both online. Disorganized!!!
I have started the design from the left hand corner so here is my progress so far..
There are loads of different patterns within this blackwork design and I am loving it!

Halloween isn’t very big here but it doesn’t stop the shops from plastering the shelves with cheap decorations, customes and sweets and I agree with you, celebrating our departed loved ones would feel like a much better use of that day. I love the pattern you chose and you’ve made a great start on it already!

We don’t do Halloween here either! You have made good progress already. Blackwork intrigues me, I may have to check that our for my next project.

I am definitely not a Halloween fan, however this looks more of a gothic style sampler than actual Halloween and I do like this.

Daisy, if you heard a squeal from the PNW it was me — I LOVE this design. I’m a Halloween lover and have always wanted to try a blackwork piece, too. I’ll be right here next to Mary Margaret eagerly watching this grow.

I don’t do Halloween either.
I’ve seen lots of red work but black work , not as much. You make good progress!

I love blackwork with a variety of stitches. I’m not surpriseyou’re enjoying stitching this one. I don’t like what Hallowe’en has become with all the cheap tat on sale every year.
