SAL 18th January 2026

Hello Everyone

Well the New Year is in full swing, and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday filled with lots of stitching where possible. I haven’t made any resolutions or false promises to myself, instead I have tried to put a break on the chaotic madness of keep starting new projects and building a pile of UFO’s. Instead I have made a comprehensive numbered list (45!! but we will not dwell on that) of all the projects that I have started and choose 2 per month via picking numbers out of a hat. It’s more a 3 year list than 1 year.

However, it appears to be capturing my mind and I have successfully put in a fair number of stitches to my Halloween Cross stitch Project by The Steady Thread.

Here is where I was last time ….

Here is where I am now …

The top row is complete except for the border design. Now shall we guess what the picture is this time.

a: A Black Cat

b: Witch stirring a cauldron

c: A Raven

d: Witch on a Broom

No prizes just fun.

Bye for now

Daisy

  1. When I first joined this group I had read of a method to keep my stitching fresh and supposedly ufo free. You worked through each project for a week and then moved on to the next. Once you came to the end of your current projects you were allowed to add something new and start the round again. I loved working like this until I realised a week was not long enough to make a lot of progress on a big project and be with my current list at 36 (due to keep adding things) I was getting in more of a mess and not less. This group has really kept me on track and my ufo basked is well down maybe half a dozen if that left to do. I have had the occassional new start because I needed a gift or found a new thing that appealled and was small, which also meant when things got to much I perked myself up again. Stick with it if anyone can help you get down that like Daisy then its this little group. Go Girl and good luck. xx

  2. 45??? That’s a lot lol. I hope you can avoid starting anything new until you’ve finished a few. The Hallowe’en themed blackwork design is coming along nicely. I’m with Kathy, and vote for a black cat.

  3. I’d put the other 45 into some fairly inaccessible place like the loft and then I’d be more inclined to finish my current project. Starting is new one is my reward for finishing the one before. It works for me but we’re all different. I’m hoping the picture is a raven.

  4. If we’re in overcrafters anonymous mode, I have a Trello board where I list all my projects (including my “purposefully abandoned” list). They are divided by type of craft (Halloween stitching, Christmas stitching, upcoming gifts, papercraft, misc.) and I have a picture of the kit or the supplies and (when I’m very good) a note on WHERE THE SUPPLIES ARE). I’m embarassed to say the number of things, but at least, right now, most of them are unstarted rather than unfinished. So there’s that.

I try to keep myself down to no more than 3 projects at a time: a biggish project, a small, travel-friendly project, and any upcoming gifts. And I’ve gotten better at that. I’m also trying to not buy any more supplies or projects unless I need something to finish a project. That has also been going well.

I love the Halloween blackwork design you’ve been sharing (and am working VERY HARD not to add it to my backlog!). I would also like to see a raven, but I think it might be a witch stirring a cauldron.
