Hope you are all well.

I have had a little more stitching time of late due to the fact that I have lessened my working hours to 6 hours a day. Therefore, when I finish at 3:00pm I can stitch for one and half hours before tea-time, whilst my Hubby has a rest. So without further ado here is where I was last time …

Hello Everybody

Three weeks have passed by quickly again, but I have managed a little sewing on the Pirate Quilt.

Last time I was swimming down the side with the waves, now I have swerved around the second corner and I am now surfing along the bottom row. (Sorry sounds a bit corny!!!)

No two waves are exactly alike but they’re not like that in nature either – well that is what I am telling myself. Certainly giving me practice.

Hello Everyone

I have finished sewing the Jazz Quilt Top and have selected the wadding and cut to size the backing fabric.

Also I have been sewing the cushion/table centre piece and this is how far I have progressed … and since taking the photo I have continued sewing the little squares.

• 

On Tuesday I visited my mother – who you may remember had a fall and broke her arm which is now plated and pinned together – it is mending well but she cannot put pressure on it so I cut out some squares for her and gave some advice on colours for her project. She can use her electric sewing machine but cannot hand sew at present.

I haven’t talked much about the garden this year so here is a quick update, we planted red geraniums all around the garden this year and they have bloomed beautifully.

The Heuchera, the dahlias and the roses followed suit and the garden still looks in full bloom. I know gardening jobs need to be done but it is a shame to move anything at the moment, so on a gorgeous sunny September morning/afternoon I just took photos. See below …..

We had also planted the chimney pots with Million Bells which are a miniature petunia and they look fantastic against the fuschia which are hardy and remain in the pots in the winter.

Also the rhododendron has started making buds which will remain dormant until the spring, along with my Pieris Forest Flame which makes tiny bracts of flowers that will open in the spring

Hi Everybody

This year is whizzing by – Autumn is here and I confess to liking Autumn, slight chill in morning air turning sunny, beautiful hues on the trees and shrubs, berries, crispy leaves, what is there not to like? Sometimes we get an Indian Summer with spectacular sunsets.

Anyhow enough of that – onto the sewing. Having been on holiday for a week (a staycation) I have managed a fair bit of sewing which will also be shown in a different post.

Lady Greensleeves had some of my attention and here is where I was last time ….

Hi Everyone

It was my Birthday on Wednesday and one of the presents I had requested was “The Season of Life Quilt” by Sandra L. Mollon. It looks like a very complex quilt with lots of applique, a task which I had set myself to learn. Take a look at some of the pictures from the book.

I’m not sure when I will start this quilt top but I look forward to the experience.

Another present was the book “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles and roughly it is about occupied France by the Nazis and how the employees of the Library smuggle books to Jewish readers during this occupation risking their lives in doing so. It is a book about romances, friendship, heroism found in the quietest corners.

Hello everyone

As mentioned in my HQAL post I have been busy sewing these past two weeks and have completed 1 project, started a new project, and continued with existing projects.

Firstly – the completed project – a new cushion.

This was a test really to see what effect the stencils would have and I think that the stencil image is actually lost in the complex patterns on the material. The cushion cover itself was an old pillow case which I chopped the bottom off keeping the flap close end as the means of getting the infill cushion out easily. Bit off a cheat really buy made good use of an old pillowcase. I stitched the quilt pattern onto the top and batting and then tried my hand at applique – not perfect but a good effort.

I think that my Daybreak Quilt (which is the same material) will be stitched either in the ditch or just either side of the horizontal and vertical lines.

Secondly, a new cushion cover idea or a placemat idea

This is very much a work in progress.

The “Jazz Quilt” is coming along in leaps and bounds

I don’t normally go for yellow and orange but they are the colours in the cross stitch images.

Making Waves Etc! Etc! Etc!

Hello Everybody

Well I have had a most proficient week, despite having to work an extra Friday over the past two week (colleague holiday cover).

I have continued with The Pirate Quilt – making waves along one side edge and that is now complete ready to turn another corner. I am actually starting to enjoy this quilting now – perhaps it was just a confidence thing as I have never done a project like this before.

I am using Aurifil No. 1148 50/2 thread and it is a deep turquoise.
