HQAL Sunday 24th July 2022

Hello everybody

Still melting in our heatwave. It appears to affect my Ipad which doesn’t want to take a photo of my sewing, therefore, I can only say that I have been sewing lots of 1. 1/2″ black squares either in strips of 2 or 4’s which will then be sewn together into strips of 8. I need 12 strips of 8 to complete the stage area. Black is very tiring on the eyes and I need good lighting when sewing together.

The middle section has not had any attention and the bottom section will need more black squares around the poster art prints and also around the car block. Here is an old photo of the general layout of the top and middle sections.

Well that’s me this week, so why not pop along to see the other projects our group are working on.

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

  1. I have a (perhaps) silly question: if you’re going to sew black squares into strips, why bother cutting them into squares, why not just cut the strips the size you need?

    1. The only excuse is that I change my mind when creating and sewing together my designs. Artistic License I presume.. Also I have a slightly sadistic side to me – never walk the followed path and all that. Off the beaten track is me. Yes you are right it would be less time consuming but secretly I enjoy it – just a bit more difficult with the black squares. The upside is that I will be chuffed to bits when I have completed it.

  2. Black is tiring and lighting is really needed. I am struggling with my dark thread choice on the darker bits to quilt. Hang in there. Anxious to see this come together.
