Sewing Saturday

Hi Everyone

I know it it unusual to here from me on a Saturday but I wanted to show you what I had achieved this past week – although two days have been lost to a migraine attack with a very disturbing addition of feeling faint. However, I have recovered and stitched a lot of different items, so in no particular order

Some stitching on the Flower Fairy Quilt … actual colour is green and pink background to the fairies. This was the more relaxing item to stitch.

Some stitching on Sophia Loren …. the black section is part of her hair. I can feel her eyes following me as I stitch.

The Stag Quilt has also progressed ..

Two rows are complete with additional side block panel in the first photo and various blocks in varying stages of completion in the second photo.

Well thanks for popping by and take care.

SAL – Sunday 13th March 2022

Hello Everybody,

As some of you know from a previous post I have completed Lady Greensleeves, hooray, hooray a happy dance day.

I first blogged about this project in March 2017, and 4 years later (that is what a WIP is), 61,600 stitches later on the 4th March 2022 it is complete. I keep gazing at the finished piece – in awe of how beautiful it really is. (Sorry if that sounds like blowing me own trumpet.)

Well I have chosen my new project, again it is rather large and it is Modern Folk Embroidery’s “The Fruit of Plenty” designed by Jacob de Graaf as a SAL last year but I just paid for the downloads so I could stitch within my own time schedule. Jacob showed his design in two shades of blue but I have chosen two shades of purple DMC as my main colours accentuated with black for the birds and squirrels and a dark green shade for the twiggy bits in the design.

Deep Purple shade 3837; Lilac Shade 554; Black 310; Deep Green 319.

Well lets show some some pictures of my start ……..

Well that is me for this week – so please take a peek at what the other members of this sewing group have achieved on their various projects.

SAL – Completed Lady Greensleeves

Hi Everybody

I’m so excited – hip hip hoorah!! I’ve finished Lady Greensleeves.

I first blogged about this project in March 2017, and 4 years later (that is what a WIP is), 61,600 stitches later on the 4th March 2022 it is complete. I now have to think about the picture frame – do I go for an antique style frame, a gilt frame as in the photo artwork or a dark green frame to carry on the green theme (who knew there were so many greens?) Arhh! decisions decisions!

And now I have to decide on my next project – I could start something new or use Sophia Loren as my project. I do have a dowload from last years SAL at Modern Folk Embroidery or another project that I have a printed pattern for or I could use the Butternut Road design that I had started at work. You will have to wait and see but for now ……

I’m H.A.P.P.Y I’m H.A.P.P.Y I know I am, I’m sure I am, I’m H.A.P.P.Y

Does anyone remember that sitcom with James Bolam set in a hospital ward.? Revealing my age a bit here!

HQAL-Sunday 27th April 2022

Hello Everybody

Hope you are well.

I have been sewing the Nashville Quilt – it is all infilled with 1 1/2″ squares EPP which are ok to make whilst watching TV and come together surprisingly quickly. Although I do find the black squares make my eyes feel more tired than the lighter colours. Here is my progress so far …. these are the first two blocks of the top part of the quilt.

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

SAL – Sunday 20th Feb 2022

Hi Everybody

Hope all is well in your part of our world. We are very wet and windy but no storm damage as yet.

I have not done much cross stitching at all – just a few on Lady Greensleeves as shown below

Just a few up the bridle onto the horses back.

Without further ado lets visit the other members blogs and see the progress they have made on their individual projects.

HQAL – Sunday 6th Feb 2022

Hi Everybody

A very warm welcome to Theresa.

I have made a decision to put the Pirate Quilt to one side and take up the Nashville Quilt as the object for this HQAL. I have made good inroads as you will see from the photographs. Apart from the poster art images the rest of the quilt will be made up by 1.1/2″ squares in black/beige/red/red floral material. The only exception being the octagonal shapes (table) and the black honeycomb shape (chairs).

The idea is that the top half is a singer with the patchwork curtain/drapes behind and then the black area is the stage with the strap line along the front of the stage. The octagonal shape is a table and chairs (8 of those) with beige flooring (1.1/2″ squares) with a restaurant as depicted. The bottom area is the parking lot and two more poster art images.

Well that is me for this week, please pop along the other members sites to see their wonderful projects.

Sunday Sewing 30th Jan 2022

Hi Everyone

Hope you all are having a pleasant weekend sewing, crocheting or knitting etc!

I have been working on several of my projects, and have been fairly successful in my efforts despite the constant interruptions with me playing Nurse Mason, my husband is much better and feels constrained but soon he will be able venture outside and tend to his lovely garden. Thank you all for your kind messages.

Onto the sewing first up is Sophia – she is looking stunning.

Those eyes are so unique – mesmerizing!! Not sure why it looks blue, it is on white 14 count Aida and she is stitched in various shades of gray and cream.

Next I played around with the Honey Bee Quilt with Gail Pan centre. I have sewn together one of the side panel 9 patch blocks and half sewn a middle block that is breaking up the 9 patch effect.

I love these designs – so cute centre pieces. The other 9 patch block will have green and yellow designs and there is another block like the bottom one in mustard yellow and the yellow/blue fabric. Photo next time.

Thirdly, I started to quilt the Flower Fairy Quilt. Basically I am planning to stitch around the circle pieces and then the two borders. The circle and outside border will be in grey as shown and the inner box border is sewn with Aurifil variegated thread 40/2 No. 3817. It is a pink/green/yellow/cream colour.

Does anyone think I should stitch around the fairies? How much is too much or how little is not enough in the quilting world? Are there set rules? Opinions are welcome.

The other design that I have been working on is the Nashville Quilt (my husband does know now so not a secret anymore). He liked the preliminary design that I had laid out. I have sewn all the red borders and am now making loads of 1 1/2″ squares to go between the blocks. I have hand-drawn a design on graph paper and worked things out but it doesn’t always go to plan. If working on your own designs how do you plan the quilt?

Well that is all for now, happy stitching

Sunday Sewing Jan 22

Hi Everybody

Firstly thank you too everybody for their well wishes towards my husband. He was very frail looking when we eventually got him home but he has perked up nicely and we had the stitches removed on Friday. The three small wounds are healing nicely – no infections but he had reacted badly to the antibiotic so we have added that to his list of allergies.

I have managed to progress another quilt to the quilting stage. This time it is my “Jazz Quilt”.

The intention is to quilt just inside the sewing lines on the dotted orange fabric and the yellow gingham fabric and the same thing on the centre panel with the white music notes. The black and cream panel I may just do a chevron style or cross hatch – undecided!! The gingham may just have a straight line again not thought too much about that. The spotted material at the side is to be the binding.

Well that is it for now.

All about the Bees

Hi Everybody

My husband is still in hospital – very anxious to have him home again. I have tried to occupy my mind with my sewing and like a busy bee I cannot settle to anything for very long. However, I have managed to unearth some UFO and set to preparing the backing and pinning together. First up , my Bee Quilt that has the cross stitch bee as its centrepiece.

Jogged anyone’s memory. It was a while ago (2018-2019), indeed my first attempt at patchwork. Do you like the cute bee stencil? Plan is to draw stencil on block as shown and around the centre piece and then just do diagonal lines following the design if you see what I mean.

Secondly, I have planned out and started to cut out a new Honey Bee Quilt using a Gail Pan Design for the centre piece and work a 9 patch block around this as shown. The little bee hives have been fussy cut from the stripe fabric you can see in the centre area. Looks sweet already.

I have cut the centre piece about and added the green bees as though flying across a meadow back to the hive. The plan for this is to have flower borders from the stripe fabric down either side of the nine patch blocks and then a 3 row 3″ pieced border of the various fabrics at the top and bottom.

Well that is all for now. Take care everyone.
